General Description
MicroRNAs (miRNAs), such as MIR185, are short noncoding RNAs that typically basepair with the 3-prime UTRs of target mRNAs and either suppress translation or induce mRNA degradation. The MIR185 stem-loop sequence encodes 2 mature miRNAs, MIR185 (MIR185-5p) and MIR185* (MIR185-3p), from its 5-prime and 3-prime ends, respectively (Liao & Lu, 2011).

Function of the protein in oral and tooth development
The miRNA pathway is evident to have significant importance in embryogenesis including tooth development. miRNAs are found to regulate morphogenesis of tooth by fine-tuning the signalling networks. However, their precise role in tooth differentiation and morphogenesis is unclear (Khuu et al., 2016)
